The Joy of Teaching

I have been blessed to have shared my knowlege of the encasutic technique and cold wax painting for over 18 yeas years here in San Miguel de Allende. My classes bring me joy and I love being able to offer them. It takes a lot of preparation to make them right for each participant. I take time to decide where to focus on the techniques, how to fulfill the emotional elements of the class and then adding new inspirations. That will hopefully create a personal experience for each participant. I now ask those interested in experincing paintig with wax and fire (encasustic) to let me know when they will be in San Miguel and we can plan the dates of the classes that best suit our schedules.

The Power of Red

I have been a student of color for over 50 years. I wrote a short book about that subject and I have plans to create some YouTube videos about the importance of color in our lives, personalities, emotions and bodies. Just recently as I have been checking my files of sales and comments, I noticed that almost every red painting I made in the past few years has sold. From my book,"Red is a forceful and stimulating color. It is the great energizer. Red helps us integrate into our physical body. It speeds up the pulse rate, raises the blood pressure and increases the respiration. It is a color of activity and intensity. corresponding to fire and blood, it stimulates the passions, the life force and the appetite. Red indicates force, vigor and energy... If a human body is lacking the red vibration that person could be inclined to be lazy, idle, sleepy and anemic. The appetite would be diminished. Here is what some others artist and designers have said about red: "I want a red to be sonorous, to sound like a bell. If it doesn't turn out that way, I add more red and other colors until I get it." Back to Work

Classes, studio visits, and making new work. The move to my new home and studio was exhausting and tool a long time. Finally all the paintings are moved,; the studio is set up and I am busy.

New Art Studio

Moving is always stressful and often challenging. I moved from a large home with a viewing room of hundreds of paintings to a small cottage with a separate art studio. Many paintings sold,but I have been a prolific artist and still have lots more. I filled most of the walls in the cottage with my art as well as the new art studio. And as always, welcome studio visits,art tours and encaustic students. The big sale is over and now it is time to get back to creating the perfect space for working and teaching.

Up until a couple of weeks ago I had been planning to move back to the United States. I began to realize that seemed to be going backwards. Almost 19 years ago I came to San Miguel de Allende and began my new expansive life. 18 years ago, I started teaching the encaustic technique. I love sharing all I know and experienced in my artist's journey with people I would never have met with out the classes. But as I am in the twilight years of my life, I was not appreciating living in a big house with a big yard. Recently, I spent some time upstairs in my viewing room and realized there were paintings in the stacks that I had forgotten about and/or hadn't been publicly exhibited in years. I enjoyed revisiting these older works and happy that they stood up to time well. This week I found a garden cottage as my new home with a separate painting studio. It is sweet, small and just what I wanted. Now it is time to offer most of my older work at greatly reduced prices up to 50% off the retail prices. Come and go through the stacks. Pull out paintings that you would enjoy adding to your collection, or start your collection with art that you choose as you would choose a friend. . I have noticed in upscale design and furniture stores that color is missing from the furniture, accessories, wall decor, rugs and more. I think that is supposed to create a sophisticated look, depersonalizing our homes. I began my study of the power of color over 50 years ago and know that color can affect us both mentally and physically; inspire our creativity, calm or excite us and has a deep impact on our health. Each color has its own wisdom and can change our perspective on life. I plan on doing YouTube presentations on this subject, in the near future. Color has energy and vibrations and frequency. Some intuitive people can hear the various subtle sounds of different colors. To really have a healthy diet, tap into the color and energy of food. When I taught vegetarian cooking many years ago, I said when you have a beautiful colorful balance of color in you food, you are sure to have a balance of nutrients.
